Hi everyone! It’s almost the weekend. Finally time to relax a bit (unless you work on the weekend like I do then it’s kind of relaxing before/after work).
Today’s post is on: My favourite fragrances!
While these perfumes are in no order, they are some of my favourites scents.I’m still relatively new to the green community. There are some parts that I know like the back of my hand, like oils and certain clays and powders and teas. But fragrances, body wash, etc. I’m still learning. This list will be on my favourite fragrances that are a mixture of both synthetic and natural scents. I would love to try out some natural fragrances but there are so many and it’s really hard to know which ones I would like. Basically, I don’t know where to start!
Before going into this, I want to give some very brief summaries on the different types of perfumes. Of course, in the future, I will do a more in depth post on the differences between natural and synthetic scents.
Synthetic fragrances hold almost no boundaries. They are scents that mimic natural ones like flowers (lavender and rose), spices (vanilla and cinnamon), and fruits (blood orange and bergamot). They have the ability to open up the field of representation in perfumery especially for those wishing to create blends that are wholly unique. Synthetic scents are extremely hazardous, possibly causing serious problems down the line (source).
Natural perfumes and colognes contain only fragrances that come from plants. A lot healthier than synthetic ones but they tend to last for a shorter time and don’t always smell the greatest. Some of them are awesome though!
Top Notes: The scents that are immediately recognized upon application
Middle Notes: Appear once the top notes side. They are the ‘meat’ (or heart) of a scent.
Base Notes: Final notes that appear once the top notes are completely gone and the middle notes side.
Commodity has been killing me for the past two/three years. I first heard about them from blogger Luanna Perez and upon first sniff, I really didn’t like it. Once I let it settle on my skin, it started smelling a lot better. Give it half an hour, and you’ll be in love with the scent.
On their site, Gold is “inspired by money in liquid form. […] This rich concoction of molten amber and Nubian musk is indulgent enough to bathe in.”
Top: Bergamot, Juniper Berries, Camphor
Middle: Amber, Vetiver, Benzoin
Base: Oakmoss, Sandalwood, Vanilla, Creamy musk
The description is spot on. Once it melts into the skin, it’s this smooth and seductive scent that wraps around the body. I feel like royalty every time I wear it.
2.A. Rain by Commodity
Very light scent that is not insulting at all. It’s crisp like a lovely Spring day with some light showers.
“Rain is inspired by the scent of soaked fields of flowers and an escape to a clean slate. […] This pleasant surprise for spring combines soothing notes of lotus, verbena, dew, and jasmine to create a delicate floral symphony.”
Top: Dewy green accord, Bergamot, Lemon verbena, rain
Middle: Jasmine, Freesia, Lotus blossom
Base: White amber, water musk, Sheer woods
This is the perfect pick-me-up scent as it’s so happy and sweet yet mild at the same time. If you love the smell of real rain, you can’t go wrong with this.
I prefer the Reserve line more than their regular one because these scents have more character and depth to them.
“Rain [reserve blend] captures the pulse of a rain forest and the moment after a fresh rainfall when the air is so pure and fresh. This fragrance is created from an unexpected combination of fruity floral notes blended with fresh patchouli, vetiver, and musk.”
Middle: Moist white flowers
Base: Patchouli, Vetiver
Like their name, Rain is a very straightforward scent. I tend to reach for this one when I want something that isn’t anything but really clean. Makes me feel like a real adult.
Last Commodity scent, I promise. It’s really hard, I love all of their scents. They’re all just so unique and well crafted and fit with my bodily scent so well.
“Wool is inspired by cool winter nights and cozy sweaters. Wool features touches of Bourbon vanilla and Haitian vetiver.”
Top: Mandarin, Grapefruit, Apple
Middle: Basil, Fresh ozone, Cedarwood, Lavandin, Armoise
Base: Amber, Haitian vetiver, Gray musk, Bourbon vanilla
Wool is the perfect Fall scent. It’s all about being cozy with some awesome boots and chunky sweater. It’s a lot deeper and muskier than the other scents on this list but it’s great for that ready-for-anything days.
This was probably the scent that really got me into fragrances. Especially ones containing musk. I love it, it gives a lot of fragrances some edge.
“Inspired by the Mediterranean seductress, Cleopratra captivates the senses.”
Top: Bitter grapefruit, Lush greens, Cassis buds
Middle: White jasmine, Peach nectar, Tuberose
Base: Warm patchouli, Golden amber, Rich vanilla musk
It’s easy to go overboard with this one because it’s so nice. But the base notes are quite strong, One spray and that lasts all day.
This scent reminds me a lot of Chloe and Narciso Rodriguez perfumes. However, it’s more inbetween them than anything. Where Rodriguez is dark, Carven’s is light and sweet. It’s a classic scent that is not insulting and very agreeable. I reserve this one for days I’m looking to be extremely professional.
“A fabulous floral bouquet built around White Hyacinth, fresh and delicate.”
Middle: Sweet Pea
Of course, I have many more scents to share but I thought short and sweet would be great. Also, these are the scents I gravitate towards the most (like tonight I will be wearing a combination of Rain by CLEAN and Gold by Commodity).
What are some of your favourite scents? Do you have any all natural ones I should check out? Let me know!
